About

NAfME Collegiate is a professional organization that strives to support future music educators.  We provide professional development opportunities, such as conferences and networking, for our members.  One of our most important goals is to create a sense of community among our members so that we can build lifelong friendships.

To become a member of NAfME Collegiate students register to become members of PMEA, and they also pay dues to the Penn State chapter of NAfME Collegiate.

Some of the activities that members of Penn State NAfME Collegiate participate in are:

  • Bi-weekly meetings: some administrative and some with guest speakers.

  • Reading Sessions: an opportunity to sight read elementary/middle school band, orchestra, or choral literature.  Students can gain more practice on their secondary instruments and receive the opportunity to conduct.

  • Penn State School of Music Audition Days: NAfME students set up, tear down, and aid the auditionees in any way possible.

  • Volunteer work: NAfME Collegiate is often asked to volunteer to help with other events in the school of music.

  • PMEA State Conference: PMEA holds a conference in the spring for music educators, and the NAfME Collegiate members are also welcome to attend.

  • Penn State Fall Music Educator's Workshop: Penn State hosts a workshop ever fall to provide professional development for both the music education students and current music teachers who are able to attend.
